Staff Spotlight – Paul Tevis, Operations Manager
Our Operations Manager, Paul Tevis is one of the original founders of Made Neat and has worked for our sister company The Code Company for many years. Today we put the spotlight on him to learn more about the man that ensures the smooth flow of business within Made Neat.
So Paul, what’s your story? How did you end up working with Made Neat?
I was born and raised in California, in a pretty big family by today’s standards. I’m the oldest of 6 brothers and 1 sister. Went to military school for middle school and a leadership academy for high school. I had it in my head that I wanted to be a cop (that didn’t happen). After graduating high school, I attended college for a few years.
It was after college in 2010 I started doing some small contract work for Ben May, which eventually developed into more full-time work. Fast forward to 2015, I decided to make the move to Australia and work from The Code Company’s office in Hervey Bay Queensland.
In 2016, it became evident there were two different businesses in The Code Company, small to medium business and enterprise. In order to still service our small business clients, we launched Made Neat. My job is to make sure we operate to our fullest potential, which I’ve come to learn can be a bit challenging as a new business, but rewarding when you start to see it unfold.
Choose your Mr. Men/Little Miss, to describe your work personality?
I’ve never heard of Mr Men or Little Miss, so I had to Google this. Based off what I’ve found, I suppose Mr. Grumble. (insert giggles from the interviewer at accuracy)
What is your special superpower?
Patience. (insert more interviewer giggles and a quick eye roll)
If you could swap positions with anyone in the team just for one day, who would that be and why?
It would probably be Jackson, our lead designer. That’s assuming I could design. I can’t design though, so I’m quite happy not swapping with anyone.
What is your favourite thing to do after you close your laptop for the day?
Prepping dinner and having either a glass of bourbon or wine, while listening to a podcast. After that, it’s putting on a movie. If I’m really feeling like leaving the house and there’s a nice sunset, I’ll walk down to the beach and snap some photos.
Favourite website or podcast?
I recently got into a podcast called Casefile. It’s about different crime cases around the world, going through the details of the cases, in a very well narrated way. Their multi-part podcasts are done very well. My other favourite podcast would be Waking Up with Sam Harris (depending on the topic and guest).
What has been your biggest accomplishment in the last 12 months?
Somehow convincing the gal I was courting to be my girlfriend.
If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would be the Dedication Brown Ale from the Oak Hills Brewery in my hometown. A close second would be their Oatmeal Stout which they have available off and on.
What are your hopes for our industry?
I hope we adapt to the times and remain relevant.
